Inventions have absolutely transformed the world. In the past, things were much simpler and society proceeded at a leisurely pace. Back then things were a lot tougher and took an awful amount of time to carry out than they do today. Things have certainly changed a good deal down the years and every invention or enhancement of an earlier invention has had an amazing impact on our world.

The tales that your grandparents tell you of is life as was experienced by them in their younger days. It’s difficult to conceive of living in a world devoid of all the modern amenities that we assume to be a part of our lives today.

The following are five inventions that transformed the world of today:

1. Automobile – Well, the automobile for sure has transformed the world in astonishing ways quite beyond one’s expectations. Earlier automobile travel was restricted and cumbersome. All through the years this incredible invention has transformed every aspect right from how we interact with others to how we work and eat.
2. Indoor Plumbing – Does the time when you continuously had to rush to the stream or brook to fetch water in a bucket for your home ring a bell? Unless you belong to the older age group, you most probably only recall your grandparents speaking about it imagining that they were spinning yarns. But, before the invention of indoor plumbing, outdoor bathrooms and fetching buckets of water was the accepted way of life.
3. Air Travel – Now, air travel covers everything from planes to rocket ships. In the absence of air travel it definitely would be well nigh impossible to travel around the world. Going to other countries would not be easy and commute times are longer. International trade would indeed be restricted and the satellites which provide us with so much information and entertainment would never have been there.
4.  Medicines – Just imagine how our world would be if medicines had never been discovered. There’s even a likelihood of some incurable disease obliterating the entire human race if this remarkable invention had not been found.
5. Computers – Computers have heralded an exciting new era that has impacted all that we do from entertainment to work. It is also an innovative way of meeting your dream man or woman. An increasing number of people are being hooked onto cyberspace and unearthing a whole exciting world.

Essentially, all these five inventions have had a tremendous impact on our world and have significantly improved the quality of our life. In the absence of inventions the world truly would be quite different from what it is now. You would not be able to indulge in hot showers, or have the comforts of continuous supply of electricity or running water. It would be quite out of the question to shop for food at the grocery store or holiday in exotic destinations. There would be no way of even being in regular contact with your near and dear ones.
